Samsung has announced its latest mobile phone, the Samsung I8000 Omnia 2. This device has a huge 480 x 800 high resolution touch screen display which is 3.7 inches in size when measured diagonally & the user can view up to sixty five thousand colours on the AMOLED screen. It also includes a 50 MB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, 8.1-megapixel photo snapper, runs under the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, and supports a handwriting recognition feature on the touch screen. Its casing is 117 grams in weight & its measurements are compact making it a pocket friendly handset which is 11.8cm tall by 5.96cm wide by 1.19cm deep.

The device also comes to the market with a Qualcomm processor, and sports a wide range of connectivity features, including 3G support, Bluetooth, miniUSB, GPS and Wi-Fi. The handset is also expected to feature Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, which means that it might come with restyled menus. Moreover, support for DivX/XViD should also be on board.

It seems that the successor of the Samsung i900 Omnia mobile phone has been recently spotted into the wild via a Lithuanian online retailer, and it comes under the name of Samsung I8000 Omnia2. The handset will come to the market running under the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, while also featuring an AMOLED touchscreen and an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper.

The new Omnia comes with a lot of differences when compared to the original model, including the 3.7-inch WVGA TFT resistive touchscreen, the aforementioned camera that includes dual LED flash and video recording capabilities ([email protected]), 50 MB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space. According to some of the rumors on the Internet, Samsung might announce the new mobile phone as soon as June 15, when the Samsung Unpacked worldwide unveiling event will take place. Until that happens there is no official word on the handset, though it seems to be part of the Samsung Cubic project, which should also include the Samsung S8000 Jet and M8000.

According to the rumors, the Samsung I8000 Omnia2 might come to the shelves with a heavily customized Windows Mobile platform, which should be the 6.1 version. In addition, the handset is also expected to feature Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, which means that it might come with restyled menus. Moreover, support for DivX/XViD should also be on board.

We should probably sit tight and wait for June 15 to get here to see whether the successor of the Samsung i900 Omnia is as real as it seems at the moment.
